Can I Cleanse My Scalp With Starter Locs?
A common question I usually get from my clients and just others who are curious is can they wash their hair with starter locs. The answer is "YES"! A few years ago when I attempted to start my locs I was told I could not wash my. So I didn't. After about two weeks I broke down and washed my hair. My scalp was itching like crazy. I was used used to cleansing my hair once or twice a week. So long story short the money I spent to for starter locs went down the drain. I ended up taking down my the starter locs because I knew I couldn't make it within washing my hair.
I wish I had the correct information back then.
I teach my clients and anyone who asks on how to cleanse your scalp with starter locs and not mess up your hair.
Here are some simple steps below to help your keep a clean and healthy scalp.
1. Stand under the shower, facing away from the shower head, let the water run on your scalp.
2. Take your shampoo, cleanser, or shampoo bar (rub the soap on your fingertips) put it on your finger tips and massage the shampoo on your scalp (not hair) with just your fingers.
3. Next rinse the shampoo out. (You do not need to use your fingers.)
4. Repeat if necessary.
5. Follow up with ACV rinse. (ACV rinse = 1 part ACV & 3 part Water)
ACV rinse is a natural conditioner. It is good for the scalp and hair. The smell is strong if you are not used to it. It will disappear.
6. Massage a natural oil onto your scalp and lightly coat your hair.
6. Let your hair air dry or blow dry on low setting.
7. Retwist any locs if needed.
